Bach, P.D.Q.: Unbegun Symphony
Felix Mendelssohn: Concerto in E minor for Violin
Igor Stravinsky: Petrushka (1947 version)
A witty, high-energy program led by Daniel Raiskin puts character and story in the spotlight.
Violinist Sueye Park, a prize winner at the Sibelius International Violin Competition, performs Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor. From its soaring first notes to its sparkling, quick footed finale, this audience favourite mixes heartfelt lyricism with plenty of on the edge brilliance.
The night kicks off with Peter Schickele’s “Unbegun” Symphony, a tongue-in-cheek opener packed with musical jokes. Famous tunes pop in and out of the texture, collide, and vanish, turning the orchestra into a fast moving, laugh out loud collage.
To close, Stravinsky’s Petrushka throws us into a bustling fairground, where a puppet suddenly comes to life. Love, jealousy, and chaos unfold in bold musical colours, vivid rhythms, and scene stealing solos. It’s a lively, story rich way to experience the orchestra up close.
