Experience a vibrant evening of Czech music as Daniel Raiskin leads a program bursting with colour, story, and celebration, culminating in Leoš Janáček’s Sinfonietta, performed on a grand scale to mark its 100th anniversary. Joined by musicians from the Royal Canadian Air Force Band, the orchestra unleashes blazing brass fanfares and jubilant energy, creating a thrilling, larger-than-life finale.
At the heart of the evening is Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B minor, performed by internationally acclaimed cellist Edgar Moreau. Often hailed as the pinnacle of the cello repertoire, it sings with homesick longing, unforgettable melodies, and a finale that dances to a rousing close.
Music by Bedřich Smetana frames the concerto: the ceremonial Fanfares from Libuše, originally reserved for great national celebrations, and the gripping tone poem Šárka, which transforms a legendary tale of love, betrayal, and revenge into vivid musical drama.
