Royal Canadian Air Force Band
The Royal Canadian Air Force Band is the only full-time, professional military band representing the Royal Canadian Air Force. Established in 1946 and comprised of 35 musicians based at 17 Wing in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the RCAF Band’s mission is to connect with Canadians and inspire audiences through music wherever they perform. The RCAF Band provides music services to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Government of Canada, including performing a wide array of domestic and international engagements such as ceremonies, military and government events, and public concerts at the local, national, and international levels. The musicians of the RCAF Band come from diverse musical backgrounds performing a variety of musical styles including classical, jazz, pop, and contemporary.
The RCAF Band has been present for many important ceremonies and performances across Canada including royal visits, commemorative ceremonies and many others. Internationally, the RCAF Band has performed at the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace in London, UK, Juno Beach in Normandy, France, the Royal International Air Tattoo in Gloucestershire, UK, as well as other events in the United States, South Korea, Kuwait, the Netherlands, Latvia, Trinidad and Tobago and many other allied nations.
The RCAF Band has also produced several music videos of original songs including “Tous Unis, To the Skies” (for the 100th anniversary of the RCAF in 2024), and “Momma It’s Your Boy (Coming Home). Other music videos include “633 Squadron”, “Be Thou My Vision/Homeward Bound”, “Roads,” and “Girl on Fire”. The RCAF Band is also proud of several recording projects including “Above and Beyond” by the Wind Ensemble, “Dead Reckoning” by the rock band, and “Home for the Holidays” featuring holiday favorites.
Whether providing ceremonial music at military events or delighting audiences at public performances, the Royal Canadian Air Force Band is an iconic institution dedicated to celebrating Canada and fostering national pride through the power of music.
