Igor Stravinsky: Petrushka (1947 version)
Led by Daniel Raiskin.
Stravinsky’s Petrushka (1947 version) bursts into life in a crowded fairground, where a puppet is suddenly brought to life and pulled into a world of love, jealousy, and chaos. The score is full of bold orchestral colour, sharp rhythmic drive, and vivid character writing, shifting quickly between humour, tension, and moments of striking brilliance. Stravinsky uses the orchestra like a stage, with different instruments and sections acting as characters that bring the story to life in real time.
The music moves through constantly changing scenes, from bustling crowds to more intimate, emotional moments, creating a sense of theatre that is immediate and engaging throughout.
UnTuxed offers a peek behind the curtain. Experience the orchestra in an informal setting. At noon on Symphonic Sessions Thursdays, you can see the orchestra rehearse for the evening concert, learn about the music, and even ask the conductor questions.
