Edward Elgar: Enigma Variations (Variations on an Original Theme)
Led by Chloe Rooke.
Elgar’s Enigma Variations is a set of musical portraits of the composer’s friends, each variation capturing a distinct personality—from playful humour to quiet reflection—through Elgar’s rich orchestral writing and unmistakable melodic voice.
At the heart of the work is “Nimrod,” a deeply expressive tribute to friendship that has become one of Elgar’s most enduring and emotional musical moments. Across the full set, the music shifts between witty, tender, and reflective, forming a series of snapshots that together reveal a deeply personal story.
UnTuxed offers a peek behind the curtain. Experience the orchestra in an informal setting. At noon on Symphonic Sessions Thursdays, you can see the orchestra rehearse for the evening concert, learn about the music, and even ask the conductor questions.
