Sistema Winnipeg encourages youth to reach their full potential

Sistema Winnipeg is a unique partnership between the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Seven Oaks School Division and Winnipeg School Division. Sistema Winnipeg provides music education to children for two hours after every school day throughout the entire school year. Students receive an instrument, a nutritious snack, and a safe space to learn, grow, and flourish. At the same time, they make friends and memories to last a lifetime – all at no cost to families.
Sistema Winnipeg enjoyed a music-filled February, preparing for the first Family Night events of the 2023 calendar year. These events celebrated the students’ achievements on the last day of February! Families and friends of Sistema Winnipeg students visited the schools to enjoy the students’ performances and hear what they have been learning since winter break. Performances included traditional and familiar themes, highlighting different sections within the classical string orchestra setting. The evening ended with a community-provided potluck, providing the opportunity for families to share and celebrate favourites from their cultures and homes with each other and the students.

Sistema Winnipeg thanks Kun Rest for their recent partnership with our program!
With Kun Rest’s support, the students can be more comfortable in rehearsal and performance, play with proper posture and stability, and look stylish with all the fun colour options available. What’s even better is that the rests are incredibly easy to assemble and simple to adjust. Thank you, Kun Rest!
Save the Date!
Community supporter, singer, and school administrator Paul Ong hosts an annual fundraiser called Concert for a Cause. All proceeds from the event go directly to support a local community organization of his choosing, and for 2023, Sistema Winnipeg is very excited to be the beneficiary of that support! Join Paul, the full WSO led by Assistant Conductor Naomi Woo, and students of Sistema Winnipeg and Garden Grove School in central Winnipeg at Calvary Temple (440 Hargrave Street) on Saturday, April 29 at 7:00 pm and enjoy many familiar and new selections as Paul shares the stage with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Do you have an unused instrument at home and want to share the music with a student in need? Sistema Winnipeg needs of 3/4 size Violins, 13” Violas and Cellos. We also need collapsible music stands to help accommodate students who are also in the Winnipeg Youth Orchestras and rehearse outside of the Sistema schools on Monday nights.
