Sistema Donations

Play your part

Help share the gift of music with a child in our community! Sistema Winnipeg is fully dependent on the support from donors, and you too can be a part of helping us change the world!

Sistema Winnipeg is fully dependent on the support of our generous donors, sponsors, and funders. Each year, the WSO relies entirely on donations from individuals, companies, and partners to make operating Sistema Winnipeg possible.

Your contribution will not only help share the gift of music with youth in our community, it will also make you an integral part of the Sistema Winnipeg community. The philosophy of Sistema is that by working and playing together, we can change the world; your financial support is one of the many ways in which you can play your part.

It takes a village…

There are many ways you can get involved in and support Sistema Winnipeg and our students:

  • $3,000 supports one student for an entire year
  • $1,000 buys a cello
  • $500 buys a flute, trumpet, or viola
  • $300 buys a violin

Every dollar counts!

Instrument Donations

Do you have an instrument laying around the house? You can clear out the clutter and help Sistema Winnipeg at the same time! ! Contact Education & Sistema Manager, Jeffrey Acosta at jacosta@wso.mb.ca or 204-949-3971 to inquire or make any arrangements!

Winds, Brass & Percussion

Are you interested in donating an Orchestral Winds/Brass Instrument?

Please bring it to St. John’s Music during regular business hours! They are our official winds and brass instrument donation partner and drop-off point for Sistema Winnipeg.

St. John’s Music is located at 1330 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. They will receive, assess and pass along the instrument information to the Education & Sistema Manager.

Currently Accepting

  • Orchestral String Instruments (Violin, Viola, Cello & Double Bass)
  • Orchestral Winds and Brass Instruments (Flute, Clarinet, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, and Tuba)
  • Wanting to donate something not listed? Please reach out and inquire before doing so to jacosta@wso.mb.ca and let us know!

What Happens After Donating?

Once the instrument has been appraised and the information has been passed along to the Education & Sistema Manager, they will follow up with the results of the appraisal.

Depending on the current need of the instrument and other considerations (such as storage space, and even impacts due to Covid-19), we may or may not be able to accept the instrument and/or issue a tax receipt. If we are able to issue a tax receipt, the value of the tax receipt will be for the current state of the instrument, minus any costs of repairs to get it in playing condition for students to use (such as cleaning and repairing any parts, re-strings, etc). In some cases, instruments may be accepted without tax receipt due to outlying costs, however donors are welcome to cover any repairs in lieu of still receiving a tax receipt. Regardless, this information will be communicated and will require to confirm the donation before we fully accept it or not.

If receiving a tax receipt, donor information will need to be provided and the receipt will be issued via email unless instructed to be sent via standard mail. The instrument then gets entered into our Sistema Winnipeg inventory for program use!
