Dvořák & Tchaikovsky 4
Dates
Length
2 Hours
Global piano superstar Lukáš Vondráček makes his WSO debut with a work by fellow countryman Antonín Dvořák. Following recent performances with the Chicago, Pittsburgh and London symphony orchestras, Vondráček will regale audiences with Dvořák’s only piano concerto.
Also on the program is Tchaikovsky’s stirring and cinematic fourth symphony. Nicknamed the “Fate” symphony, the composer described this work as a reflection of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
Canadian composer Jocelyn Morlock’s JUNO Award-winning work My Name is Amanda Todd opens the concert. This powerful work was inspired by the titular 15-year-old from Port Coquitlam, BC, who loved singing and expressing herself through music. Todd tragically took her life after suffering from years of cyber abuse, harassment and bullying at school.
