Johannes Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 1
Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6
Experience the dynamic range of emotions from Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s intensely moving final symphony to Johannes Brahms’ monumental first piano concerto, performed by the virtuoso Anna Geniushene.
Prepare for a night of powerful emotions and musical mastery in a concert featuring the works of two titans of classical music, Johannes Brahms, and Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The evening begins with Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1, a monumental work that blurs the lines between concerto and symphony. Performing this demanding piece is internationally acclaimed pianist Anna Geniušene, known for her dynamic expressiveness and technical prowess.
Geniushene’s interpretations and powerful performances earned her the silver medal at the prestigious 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. With a diverse career spanning iconic venues, collaborations with renowned orchestras and conductors, and a passion for chamber music and teaching, Anna continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
Following this, the WSO performs Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, the “Pathétique.” This symphony, Tchaikovsky’s last, is a deeply personal and emotional journey, filled with passion and melancholy. It is renowned for its poignant final movement, which defies the traditional triumphant ending, instead fading into a heart-wrenching adagio.
Fun Fact: Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” Symphony is often seen as a reflection of the composer’s own inner turmoil and emotions, making it one of his most personal and profound works.
