WSO and FLY Dance Company bring hip-hop workshop to downtown Winnipeg
- News
Studio 393 is a free, come-as-you-are, drop-in studio space for youth aged 12-29. The studio is an initiative by Winnipeg’s Graffiti Art Programming Inc. that offers dance classes, a recording space, arts programming, and more to youth in the community. They are located on the main floor of Portage Place Shopping Centre and aim to foster a peer-to-peer community of young people interested in the arts.
In partnership with FLY Dance Company and Studio 393, the WSO was able to arrange for a special community performance at Portage Place. There, the “Gentlemen of Hip-hop” treated the public to a demonstration of their coolest moves.
MC Adam gave the audience a rundown on Hip-Hop-History and pointed out different styles of moves that FLY used throughout their performance.
After the lesson, audience members got their bodies moving by joining FLY on the dance floor. Participants learned some choreography and got to show off their moves with roaring applause from the spectators at Edmonton Court.
We have a dedicated and growing dance community within not only Studio 393, but in Winnipeg, and being able to present this workshop with Fly Dance Company to our dancers here is an amazing opportunity.”
