The WSO performs a FREE concert at The Lyric Theatre on June 29

The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, led by associate conductor Julian Pellicano, returns to the Lyric Theatre in Assiniboine Park on Thursday, June 29, at 7 pm for a FREE public concert.

In what has become a yearly tradition, Pellicano and the orchestra will present an evening of light classical favourites, film music and more!

“We absolutely love bringing orchestral music to beautiful outdoor venues like the Lyric Theatre at Assiniboine Park,” says Pellicano.

“In the open air is a wonderful way to experience the orchestra with magical music for adults and kids alike. And, if you’re new to symphonic music, it’s a fun and relaxing way to experience the WSO. I guarantee there will be something for everyone.”

This WSO concert is all part of the Assiniboine Park’s Summer Entertainment Series, which runs from June through August and is free for all visitors.

“We are so excited to host an incredible lineup of entertainment in the Park this summer,” says Sara Wolowich Brown of the Assiniboine Park Conservancy. “It has become an annual tradition for thousands of locals and a wonderful experience we can share with tourists.

The 90-minute concert will include classical music hits by masters like Tchaikovsky, opera magnate Giuseppe Verdi, Baroque prince George Frideric Handel, film legend John Williams and much more!

Performing in the great outdoors is never without its challenges. Clothespins are excellent for keeping music sheets secured to stands, and in the words of WSO music director Daniel Raiskin, “If it moves on the sheet, don’t play it.”

Music lovers are invited to bring their lawn chairs and blankets for a magical evening of symphonic music with their WSO.
