On Tuesday, June 16 at 6:30 pm, the Sistema Winnipeg – 2026 Michael Nozick Spring Concert takes the stage at Tec Voc Theatre (1555 Wall Street). More than an end‑of‑year recital, it is a celebration of community, growth, and accomplishment that donors like you help make possible.
The concert gathers students, families, teachers, mentors, volunteers, and supporters to recognize the musical and personal progress made throughout the year. It honours the dedication, confidence, and sense of belonging that music can foster, while looking ahead to new projects and challenges.
Manager of Sistema Winnipeg Héctor Pinzón describes concerts as “communal rituals,” moments when people from different walks of life gather to experience something powerful through music, whether on stage or in the audience. In the communities Sistema serves, where encouragement and confidence are not always assured, these shared experiences matter deeply.

Since 2011, Sistema Winnipeg has grown into a partnership between the WSO, Seven Oaks School Division, and Winnipeg School Division that offers two hours of free after‑school music education each day during the school year. Students receive an instrument, a nutritious snack, and a safe place to learn, grow, and make friends at no cost to families.
At Tec Voc, audiences will hear the three orchestras, Vivaldis, Mozarts, and Beethovens, as well as a mass orchestra and choir with about 120 children. The program, selected and led by Sistema Winnipeg Music Director Monica Chen, explores a wide range of characters and emotions. Divisional Teachers and Teaching Artists, including several WSO musicians, will also take the podium and the stage.
For donors, this is a rare chance to see the process behind excellence. Winnipeg often hears the finished product at the Concert Hall; here, you can see how sustained, accessible music education helps young people build discipline, focus, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
As Héctor notes, “Each child at Sistema is a different world.” They arrive with different backgrounds and challenges, but all gain empowerment through music: a voice, a way to express themselves, and a place in something larger. Many alumni go on to new paths while carrying friendships and memories formed in rehearsal rooms and on stage, continuing to strengthen community and “pass the torch forward.”
Your support makes this possible. The spring concert is a vivid reminder of how investment in Sistema Winnipeg helps grow not only young musicians, but also confident, connected young people and stronger communities.
