Sistema Winnipeg Starts 2023-24 Season

Monica Chen has been with the program for over a month now, working with the students directly and behind the scenes for concerts and events.
She has been getting to know the students, the staff and the program, helping everyone achieve their musical goals. Welcome to Monica!
Sistema Winnipeg has been busy over the last few months. Rewinding back to August, we had ten students attending the Rosamunde Summer Music Academy. The students attended for a full week, engaging in independent and group activities, ending with an indoor AND outdoor concert at The Leaf at Assiniboine Park.
The start of the school year also means the beginning of participation in Winnipeg Youth Orchestras (WYO), for which students auditioned back in the spring. This year, we are ecstatic to have 15 Sistema Winnipeg students accepted into WYO in two of the orchestras – Youth Strings and Youth Concert! This is the most we’ve had in the WYO program to date. We are very thankful for our partnership with WYO and the opportunity it gives to the students, such as attending the kick-start camp in September.
While it’s still early in the year, the Beethoven Orchestra at both schools already had their first performance in October at the WSO’s Community Celebration concert.

Conducted for the first time in performance by Sistema Music Director Monica Chen, the students shared the stage with the WSO, playing for a fully packed audience!
SAVE THE DATE: Sistema Winnipeg’s Tannis M. Richardson Winter Concert is on Monday, December 18 at 7 pm, at the Seven Oaks Performing Arts Centre.
