The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra community joins many across Manitoba in remembering Tannis Richardson, whose generosity, leadership, and deep commitment to community left a lasting mark on the arts and beyond.
A lifelong champion of culture, health, and education, Tannis brought energy and purpose to every cause she supported. Her connection to music and the WSO spanned decades—from attending concerts as a young woman to serving on the orchestra’s board and supporting its growth through both advocacy and philanthropy. Her belief in the power of music to shape lives was reflected in her support of Sistema Winnipeg, helping expand access to music education for young people across the city.

Tannis’s impact reached far beyond the concert hall. A Member of the Order of Canada, she was widely recognized for her work advancing healthcare initiatives, particularly in diabetes research, as well as her leadership with organizations across Winnipeg’s cultural landscape.
Known for her curiosity, warmth, and determination, Tannis approached philanthropy as both action and presence—giving not only resources, but time, care, and thoughtful engagement.
Her legacy lives on in the many communities she strengthened and in the lives she touched. The WSO is deeply grateful for her enduring support and vision.
