Winnipeg Sonora Voices (WSV)
Winnipeg Sonora Voices (WSV), formerly known as Pembina Trails Voices, is an award-winning auditioned choral program offered to children and young people, ages 5 – 28 years, in Winnipeg. The largest city choral program of its kind, WSV’s family of choirs has served the Winnipeg community for over 35 years.
Recent performing highlights include the world premiere of Jonah by Sid Robinovitch with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra in April 2022, and guest appearances with the Winnipeg Singers, and with the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir performing Sir Paul McCartney’s Ecce Cor Meum in the 2023/2024 season.
Recent awards include WSV’s Cantemus ensemble winning the 2019 National Associated Music Festivals Choral Competition award for treble voices, WSV Singers’ third place standing in the 2019 CBC National Amateur Choir Competition and, internationally, a top finalist award to WSV Singers at the 2019 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod Choral Festival competition in Llangollen, Wales.
Upcoming events for WSV in the 2024/25 season include the premiere of a new chamber arrangement of Sid Robinovitch’s musical drama Jonah and a guest appearance with the Winnipeg Singers.
WSV’s city-wide choir organization for young people acknowledges generous support from its community, and by the Manitoba Arts Council, the Foundation for Choral Music in Manitoba and 2024’s Winnipeg Arts Council City of Song program.
