Hailing from Budapest, Hungary, bass trombonist Tamás Markovics joined the WSO in 2019. As an orchestral musician, Tamás’s performances have taken him around the world. He has performed with the Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, Miami Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, Hungary’s Zuglo Philharmonia, and toured Europe and Greater China with the Bard Conservatory Orchestra. In addition to the prestigious Lincoln Center, Konzerthaus Berlin, and Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre, he has played in memorable locations including a maximum security prison in New York and a German salt mine 2500 feet underground. He has also appeared as a soloist with the American Symphony Orchestra, St. Stephen Wind Orchestra, and the Lynn Philharmonia.

He is a winner of the concerto competitions at both Bard and Lynn Conservatories.
Tamás holds a Master of Music degree from Rice University Shepherd School of Music, a Professional Performance Certificate from Lynn Conservatory, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Bard College Conservatory of Music. Primary teachers include Dan Satterwhite, Allen Barnhill, Denson Paul Pollard, Pál Makovecz , and János Nyíri.

In addition to his music degrees, Tamás holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese Studies from Bard College.
