Susan McCallum
Susan McCallum began playing the violin at the age of five in her hometown of Fergus, Ontario. She received her Bachelor of Music degree (with Honours) from McGill University, where she was a student of Denise Lupien. She later received her Master of Music degree from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, where she studied with renowned pedagogue Maciej Rakowski.
Susan has performed throughout Manitoba and across Canada with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, the Agassiz Chamber Music Festival, the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and the National Academy Orchestra. She has also attended numerous summer festivals including the Summer Academy at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria, Domaine Forget International Festival and the Banff Centre for the Arts.
Recently Susan served on the faculties of the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and the University of Manitoba Preparatory Studies. She joined the violin section of the WSO in 2001 and lives in Winnipeg with her husband, bassist Meredith Johnson, and their daughter Isla.
