Steven Dyer

Steven Dyer joined the WSO as second trombonist at the start of the 2001-2002 season, eventually becoming principal trombonist in 2011. He is well versed in a variety of musical styles and, in addition to frequently performing as a recitalist, has appeared as soloist with the WSO and other professional ensembles in Canada.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Steven emigrated to Canada with his family in the mid 1970s eventually settling in the town of Tillsonburg, Ontario. He holds degrees from both McGill (Montréal) and DePaul (Chicago) universities. Prior to his arrival in Winnipeg, he had held positions with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
Steven currently serves as Instructor of Trombone and Chamber Music at the University of Manitoba Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music.
