Sam Ferguson

Sam Ferguson is currently a student at Fort Richmond Collegiate, where he performs with his school’s Senior Ensembles, as well as playing solo cornet with the Rupertsland Brass Band and principal trumpet with the Winnipeg Youth Orchestra and the Mennonite Community Orchestra. Sam is also a trumpet soloist, having recently performed with the Winnipeg Wind Ensemble, the Rupertsland Brass Band, and the Winnipeg Youth Orchestra. He has won numerous classes at the Winnipeg Music Festival and shared the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for the most outstanding instrumental performance in 2023. Sam won the Ryan Anthony Memorial Youth Competition at the 2021 ITG conference. Sam presented a recital in 2022, with all proceeds going to CancerBlows. He has also been a two-time member of the Denis Wick Canadian Wind Orchestra as well as the Cross Canada Youth Jazz Phil Nimmons Tribute Project. He also participated in ensembles awarded with Gold Medals at MusicFest ‘The Nationals’ in 2023. Sam attended the 2022 Boston University Tanglewood Institute’s (BUTI) Trumpet Workshop and participated in the 2023 BUTI Young Artists’ Orchestra. Sam plans to study orchestral trumpet performance at university after high school and hopes to perform music professionally.
