Nicholas Sharma

Canadian-American conductor Nicholas Sharma is currently completing his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Orchestral Conducting at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, while also serving as the music director of the New Horizons Community Orchestra.

Sharma’s passion for conducting began during his undergraduate studies at the Eastman School of Music, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance studying with renowned violinist Oleh Krysa. During this time, Sharma also had the opportunity to work with various ensembles, including the Eastman Conducting Orchestra and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, which inspired him to pursue conducting more seriously.

After completing his undergraduate degree, Sharma went on to pursue his Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting at the University of Oregon, where he was also the assistant conductor of the Eugene Symphony Orchestra and the Oregon Mozart Players. In 2019, Sharma was the Albert Tipton Conducting Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and has also been invited to participate in several prestigious conducting workshops and festivals, including the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami and the National Academy Orchestra of Canada. He has worked with renowned conductors such as Michael Tilson Thomas, Stephan Denève, Neeme Järvi, Boris Brott, Neil Varon, Brad Lubman, Robert Spano and Francesco Lecce-Chong.
