Michelle Chyzyk
Michelle Chyzyk graduated from Brandon University with the Gold Medal in Music Education and since that time has made her home in Virden, Manitoba with husband Dave. Michelle and Dave have two grown sons who live in Brandon and Minneapolis with their wives.
Michelle has an extensive career as a choral director/clinician/accompanist. She has conducted the Virden Collegiate Choir, Sound Investment, the Eastman Youth Choir, the Provincial Honour Choir on three occasions, and she has led the Westman Youth Choir many times. Currently Michelle is the Artistic Director and founder of the dynamic adult choir Konektis based in Brandon, Manitoba, sharing conducting duties for this group with friend Marla Fontaine. Michelle has enjoyed her past year working as a sessional instructor at Brandon University.
In 2020, Michelle was honored to receive the Manitoba Choral Association’s Award for Artistic Excellence and Konektis Choir received the MCA New Voice Award. Previously Michelle was the proud recipient of YMCA Women of Distinction Award in 2000, the Hope Medal from the Lions Club for Outstanding Community Charitable service in 2002, the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. a Fort La Bosse Outstanding Employee Award in 2014, and an Outstanding Teacher Award from the University of Manitoba in 2016.
Michelle loves to share her passion for musical theatre with performers from all over Westman supported by a dedicated and talented group of volunteers. Twice her high school productions have won the prestigious Rainbow Stage Award and Virden Theatre Productions’ Matilda the Musical this November will mark her 36th Broadway show. She is looking forward to retirement with lots of music, golf, pickleball, and family.
