Konektis
Konektis is an adult choir based in Brandon, Manitoba. The name Konektis comes from the language of Esperanto and means “connected”. Indeed, the mandate of this charismatic choir is to connect to their music, their audiences, and to each other. In 2021, Manitoba Choral Association awarded this ensemble its New Voice Award.
Konektis’ 2022-2023 season was an eventful one as they performed Joan Szymko’s Shadow and Light with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in October, toured the Westman communities of Virden, Minnedosa, and Carberry in the spring, and performed at Carnegie Hall in April with conductors Carrie Tennant and Jamie Hilman. What an exciting season!
Konektis originated in 2016 under artistic director Michelle Chyzyk, a recipient of the Manitoba Choral Association’s inaugural Award for Artistic Excellence. The group is led by conductors Michelle Chyzyk of Virden and Marla Fontaine of Brandon with Justine Burke of Carberry at the piano. Clint McLachlan capably fills the role of vocal coach and assistant conductor.
The Konektis singers hail from many different Manitoba communities and from many walks of life. Many singers are graduates of Brandon University’s prestigious music program.
