James McMillan

James is from Charlotte, North Carolina and began playing double bass in grade six. His primary teachers were Jeff Ferdon and Kurt Riecken of the Charlotte Symphony. He graduated from Indiana University, studying with Kurt Muroki.

Prior to joining the WSO, he played with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra in Indiana and was a substitute musician for the Charlotte Symphony. His music festival attendances include Bowdoin International Music Festival, Brevard Music Festival, and Eastern Music Festival.

In his free time, he enjoys pursuing his second greatest passion- fishing. In his time at Indiana University, he was a member of the bass fishing club and participated in competitive bass fishing tournaments. Since moving to Winnipeg, he’s been enjoying his time exploring the lakes and provincial parks of Manitoba.
