Coming from a family of professional violinists, Hong’s first teachers were his father and elder brother. His orchestral career began in the Army Symphony in Bejing, China. Later, he spent two years with the Central Ballet.

Hong’s immigration to the west began with a scholarship to the United States International University in San Diego, California. He was then briefly employed by the Thunderbay Symphony and has been with the WSO since 1990.

Aside from the violin, Hong is passionate about badminton and soccer.
