Daniel Perry
Daniel first joined the orchestra as a section bassist in 2014, and in 2023, he won a blind audition for his current position. Raised by brass players in Indianapolis, Daniel originally picked bass because its size wasn’t conducive to bringing on family trips for practicing. His first teacher was Greg Dugan of the Indianapolis Symphony, and a prominent component of early development was his public school’s well-supported performing arts programs. While studying with Lawrence Hurst at Indiana University, Daniel performed the Vanhal Concerto with the IU Chamber Orchestra as the winner of the school’s concerto competition. His orchestral playing experience includes the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Verbier Festival, New York String Orchestra, and the National Repertory Orchestra.
When he’s not on stage, Daniel is a year-round cyclist for sport, utility, and recreation. Locally, he has volunteered on the board of Bike Week, as a mechanic at the Wrench community bike shop, as president of the Manitoba Randonneurs, and as a marshall for Bike Jams and Bike Winnipeg rides. Daniel can be found racing bikes anywhere from alleycats to cyclocross to winter ultras, but he’s happiest bikepacking on unpaved tracks, building new routes, and packing down Winnipeg’s winter trails. In winter ultra events, he has consistently been a winner or top finisher at Actif Epica, Arrowhead, and Tuscobia Ultras. After winning Tuscobia, Daniel received free entry to the 2024 Iditarod Trail Invitational in Alaska and subsequently finished in 4th place.
