Charlene Chin

Charlene Chin was appointed the Principal Harpist of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in 2023. She previously performed alongside the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Rochester Symphony Orchestra, London Symphonia, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and continues to work with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the National Ballet of Canada.

Curious about exploring the harp’s versatility, Charlene is committed to performing contemporary music. Most recent contributions include her invitation to perform at One Harp World, a recording of Chris Paul Harman’s new harp solo JSB EG, and her performance of R. Murray Schafer’s Concerto for Harp for the University of Toronto, Thursdays at Noon series.

A native of Washington state, Charlene traveled to Toronto to attend the Royal Conservatory of Music, studying with world-renowned harpist Judy Loman; she later continued her studies at the University of Toronto. During her Canadian hiatus, she studied at Indiana University Jacob School of Music with Florence Sitruk, who furthered her interests in contemporary music. These interests led to the creation of the harp duo, Duo XCIV, who won second prize at the Ceren Necipoğlu International Competition in Istanbul.

Outside of music, she spends her time baking and tending to her two overly affectionate cats, Claire and Betty.
