Bruce Okrainec

Music was very important in Bruce Okrainec’s early years, and every family member played a musical instrument. Bruce earned both of his degrees in Music Education; a Bachelor degree from the University of Alberta, and Master’s degree from the University of Minnesota. During his undergraduate years, he also attended the Universities of Montana and Ottawa.

The ‘Congress of Strings,’ an eight week full scholarship program, was pivotal in focusing his career aspirations towards the double bass. As a professional, Bruce has continued to study with leading bassists, and he has been the recipient of numerous grants including three awards from the Canada Council for the Arts. In addition to the double bass, Bruce has performed as a bass guitarist with the WSO.
