Bokyung Hwang

Violinist Bokyung Hwang, a native of South Korea, began her violin studies at the age of five. She has performed as a concert soloist and chamber musician across Canada, the U.S. Asia, and Europe.

She received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Eastman School of Music. Later she pursued an Artist Diploma from The Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music. Her teachers and mentors – including Robert Rozek, Lynn Blakeslee, Renee Jolles, and Mayumi Seiler – come from a long line of violin performers and pedagogues. She also played in several masterclasses with Sidney Harth, Yehonatan Berick, Federico Agostini, and Geoff Nuttall. As a scholarship recipient, Bokyung has performed in the Astona International Music Festival twice in Europe. She also won First Place at the Hanmi National Competition in Korea.

Bokyung has been a member of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra since 2015. She has appeared with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Windsor Symphony Orchestra, and the National Academy Orchestra of Canada before accepting a position with the WSO.
