After 13 successful years, Trudy Schroeder is leaving the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. As a way of thanking Trudy for 13 wonderful years of stability and growth as Executive Director, the WSO has established The Trudy Schroeder Endowment Fund to support the area of most need at the WSO. We encourage you to make a donation to the fund in her honour.

All donations made before May 31, 2021 will be matched up to $19,000 by an anonymous donor. All donations will be matched a second time by the Canadian Cultural Investment Fund, thereby tripling any donation made to the fund.

Under Trudy’s leadership, the WSO reported operating surpluses in all but one year, almost doubled the operating budget, increased ticket sales revenue, increased donated revenue, increased overall revenue, added news series and programs such as the Summer Season, Dinner and a Symphony, Women on the Podium, the WSO Movie Series, the Spring Gala, the Season Opening Gala and built strong connections with operating partners in the community. In addition, the WSO eliminated an accumulated deficit, developed community engagement partnerships, increased audience numbers, grew the endowment fund, and established Sistema Winnipeg, a powerful program for social change through training young people in music. She was also able to organize and find sufficient funding to have the orchestra perform at the NAC in Ottawa as well as Carnegie Hall in New York City and put in place the funding for the WSO’s Netherlands Tour rescheduled to May 2022 due to the pandemic.

The 2020 – 2021 season has been a tough year for all of us, and arts organizations including the WSO have been hit particularly hard. Trudy’s leadership has been essential in getting the WSO through this challenging time. Help us recognize the immense contributions she has made while also assisting to put in place additional endowment funds that will further stabilize the WSO.
