Frederick Liessens has been the Principal Percussionist with the WSO for over 30 years, and loves playing all kinds of music. Born in Sorel, Quebec, he studied at McGill University under Pierre Beluse. He has also been a member of both the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and the World Youth Orchestra. He was the guest artist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra conducted by Erich Kunzel for a Pops concert, and has been a featured soloist on many occasions with the WSO. Fred enjoys composing and arranging music for his Jazz Quartet and his percussion ensemble StickShift, and has also recorded three CDs of original compositions and arrangements.
